What are VTubers?
VTubers, or virtual YouTubers, are streamers who use virtual models to represent themselves. These models have become increasingly complex and expressive, allowing for more immersive fan interaction. Companies like Hololive have taken VTubing technology a step further, creating “virtual idols” with full body tracking, choreography, and voice training for performances in concerts.
VTuber Technology in Bars
Recently, a new type of bar has opened in Japan where patrons can buy drinks and chitchat with VTubers thanks to a screen built into the wall. These VTuber bars are reminiscent of Japanese hostess/host clubs, but they’ve been compared more to “con cafes.” The bars provide a more intimate experience with VTubers, allowing fans to have closer contact with their virtual idols.
Virtual Snack: Leading Virtual Character Bar
Additionally, there’s a snack bar in Tokyo called “Virtual Snack,” which is managed by a virtual anime character along with other virtual YouTube stars. Traditionally, snack bars in Japan are small rooms known for their cozy interiors, lack of actual snacks, and abundant supply of booze. It’s fascinating to see how VTubers are making their mark in various entertainment spaces!

Improvements in the Technology
This was tried years ago when VTubers first hit the scene. But the real time motion tracking was not as smooth. And transparent screens with a hologram projection are preferred to be more immersive.
Maybe this technology and appeal will come to the USA one day.
